G1-G5 Weekly Math Classes

Once-a-week 75-min lessons in Singapore Math from Grade 1 to Grade 5.

  • Focus on developing core Math skills and conceptual understanding of Math concepts.
  • Develop problem solving skills with Math word problems, including developing language processing and critical thinking abilities. Emphasis on solving Math word problems.
  • Strategies for faster mental computation and solving complex Math problems.
  • Build strong Math foundation with fun and challenging Math activities and games.

 

Curriculum

Explore the unique curriculum we offer for each grade level.

Grade 1

G1 topics include Whole Numbers, Number Bonds, Addition & Subtraction, Ordinal Numbers, Shapes, Length, Weight, Picture Graphs, Multiplication & Division, Time, Money and introduction to Fractions.

Computation strategies include “Make Ten”, “Subtract from Ten”, “Which goes First?” for easier and accurate mental calculation.

Problem solving strategies with visual representation such as the Diagram Approach and introduction to the Modeling Technique. Develop thinking skills with the “Identify the Pattern approach”, “Restate the problem approach” etc.

For example, G1 students develop and strengthen their Addition and Subtraction skills using Number Bonds, Place Value, Vertical Algorithm techniques and Mental Calculation strategies.

Grade 2

Grade 2 Curriculum include Numbers to 1000; Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Length, Weight, Money, Time, Capacity, Graphs, Geometry, Fractions, introduction to Area & Perimeter.

Computation strategies include “Branching”; Compensation”, “Make Tens” and other mental calculation techniques.

Problem solving strategies such as “Diagram approach”, “Modeling approach”, “Distance line approach”, “Restate the problem” approach, “Before and After approach”, “Guess and Check” approach.

For example, G2 students learn to multiply 2-digit number with 1-digit multiplier and use the Modeling strategy to solve “part-whole”, “comparison” and “transfer of value” Math word problems.

Grade 3

Grade 3 Curriculum include Numbers to 10,000; Addition & Subtraction, Multiplication & Division, Long Division Technique, Money & Decimals, Length, Weight, Capacity, Graphs, Time & Geometry, Fractions, Area & Perimeter.

Computation strategies include “Short Division” technique for faster and more accurate division of larger numbers; “Compensation” technique; “Make Tens” “Make Hundreds”; “Multiply and Divide by 10, 100” etc.

Problem solving strategies include using the Modeling strategy to solve “2- and 3-variable comparison”, “Part-Whole”, “Before & After” word problems. Other strategies include “Work Backward” approach; “Distance Line” approach, “Guess and Check” approach, “Time Line” approach, “Diagram” approach, “Solve by Parts” Approach, “Work Systematically” approach.

For example, G3 students use the “short division” technique for faster and more accurate calculation and learn to apply a variety of problem solving strategies for more complex word problems.

Grade 4

Grade 4 Curriculum include Numbers to 100,000; Multiplication and Division (3- & 4-digit), Factors & Multiples; Fractions; Tables & Bar Graphs, Angles & 8-point compass, Perpendicular and Parallel Lines, Area and Perimeter, Decimals and the 4 Operations of Decimals, Time & 24-Hour Clock; Symmetry, Solid Figures and Volume and introduction to Percentage.

Computation strategies include “Short Division” technique for faster and more accurate division of larger numbers; “Compensation” technique; “Make Tens” “Make Hundreds”; “Multiply and Divide Whole Numbers and Decimals by 10, 100, 1000” etc.

Problem solving strategies include using the Modeling strategy to solve “2- and 3-variable comparison”, “Part-Whole”, “Before & After” word problems. Other strategies include “Work Backward” approach; “Distance Line” approach, “Guess and Check” approach, “Time Line” approach, “Diagram” approach, “Solve by Parts” Approach, “Work Systematically” approach.

For example, G4 students learn how to approach increasingly complex Math problem by identify key information, the “question asked”; “what they know” and “what they need to know” etc. before selecting the strategy to solve the problem.

Grade 5

G5 Curriculum include Numbers to 10 Million; Rounding & Estimation; Order of Operation; Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division, Fractions, Triangles & Quadrilaterals; Area of a Tringle; Graphs; Percentage, Average; Decimals, Ration; Algebra

Strong focus on solving Math word problems with the appropriate approach and technique.

Problem solving strategy include using the Modeling technique to solve complex problems from the different Math topics such as Decimals, Percentage etc. Other strategies include “Work Backward” approach; “Distance Line” approach, “Guess and Check” approach, “Time Line” approach, “Solve by Parts” Approach, “Work Systematically” approach.

For example, the G5 students solve Math word problems involving a combination of Math topics.

 

Tuition

Tuition is calculated on a per term basis, with a term being 10 weeks of lessons. A sibling discount of 5% is also available.
